This one-hour film tells the story of two brothers. One has suffered the horrors and sadness of mental illness for four decade. The other is a prize-winning novelist who has been his brother’s primary caretaker through those years. Based on the experiences of Robert and Jay Neugeboren, Imaging Robert is a true story – true not only for the protagonists, but for millions of other Americans. Through extensive interviews, verite filming and home movies, the viewer sees how mental illness challenges the individual and shapes the family.
